What is HTTPS?

Definition

HTTPS (HTTP Secure) is HTTP encrypted with TLS/SSL. It ensures that data between the browser and server is encrypted, authenticated, and integrity-protected. HTTPS URLs start with https:// and show a lock icon in browsers.

Why It Matters

HTTPS is required for all modern websites. Browsers flag HTTP sites as 'Not Secure,' Google ranks HTTPS sites higher, and many browser APIs (geolocation, service workers) require HTTPS. Let's Encrypt provides free HTTPS certificates.
